Performance experience is one of the cornerstones of a well-rounded music education. The expectation of getting up in front of one's peers to perform a piece is a motivator like no other. Our student performances are more than recitals; they are unique and formative experiences. Students at Octopus Music School have the opportunity to participate in our biannual Showcase Series, taking place in the winter (January) and spring (June). A multi-day event, participants are assigned to intimate groups by instructor to show off their hard work and practice to friends and family.

How can I sign my child up for a Showcase Series?

OMS relies on our outstanding instructional staff to recommend their students to perform in the showcase. The first step to performing is to have a discussion with your child's instructor about expectations and what your child needs to do to be eligible to participate.  Communication is extremely important to ensure that everyone, parent, student, and teacher, are all on the same page. If your child has been recommended to participate in our showcase series, you will receive an email indicating so two or more months prior to the performance dates. You will then need to confirm that you wish for your child to perform and they will be assigned to a group several weeks prior to the performance.

Step 1: Communicate with your child's instructor

  • Have a discussion with your child's instructor about expectations and what your child needs to do to be eligible to participate.  Communication is extremely important to ensure that everyone; parent, student, and teacher, are all on the same page. If your child instructor feels that they are not quite ready for performance, they will provide you with meaningful feedback on steps that you and your child can take to better prepare for the next time around. It is absolutely important to OMS that all performers have a positive experience!

Step 2: Your child's instructor will recommend them for participation

  • OMS relies on our outstanding instructional staff to recommend their students for performance in the showcase. If an instructor feels that a child is ready to perform, they will register them for the showcase series.

  • You will receive an email notification that your child has been recommended by their instructor to perform in the showcase series. You will then need to confirm your child's participation within one week of receiving the email.
