Student resources

Students at Octopus Music School can find answers to commonly asked questions, including how to cancel a lesson, how to schedule a make-up lesson, browse recommendations for first instruments, find help with daily practice, and more at our student resources page.


Billing

We bill on the first of the month. Payments received after the seventh are subject to a 15% late charge, so please be sure that your payment method is up to date!


Pike13


Pike13 is the online system that OMS uses for scheduling and billing. It is how students at OMS can view and cancel their upcoming lessons, view bills, schedule make-up lessons, and reference their enrollment agreement. Visit octopusmusicschool.pike13.com and log in using the email you provided at the time of enrollment.


Canceling a lesson


Lessons must be canceled at least 24 hours in advance to be eligible for a make-up pass unless you have a plan that allows for last-minute cancellations. Cancellations may only be submitted via Pike13. For an easy to follow guide on how to cancel your lesson, visit our guide on how to cancel a lesson.


If the canceled lesson is paid for, a make-up pass will be added to your Pike13 account the next day. If the lesson is not yet paid for, the pass will be added to your account the day after payment is made.


Scheduling a make-up


Make-ups are scheduled online by the student or parent. For an easy to follow guide on how to schedule your make-up, visit our guide on how to schedule a make-up lesson.


Requests to change a recurring lesson time


To help us (and you!) stay organized, all scheduling requests must be submitted via our scheduling form.


Summer absences & plan holds


From June-August, students may take up to four (4) weeks off with tuition credits and then, if more time off is needed, students may place a hold on a plan during those months (at $35/month) and we will hold your day and time for you upon your return!


Showcase series & performance opportunities


OMS holds a biannual Showcase Series in the winter and spring each year. In addition to our school performances, we also cultivate opportunities for students to perform out in the community at fairs, festivals, downtown events, and other civic engagements. For all of our performance opportunities, including our Showcase Series, participants must be recommended by their instructors.



Curriculum & assessments


At OMS, we teach our own proprietary OPUS curriculum that we have spent many years developing. It consists of ten grade levels and on average, students can spend anywhere from six months to one year on each grade but it may be less or more depending on their practice habits. Students may receive assessments as part of their experience at OMS but they are not mandatory! Speak to your instructor for more information!


Substitutes


When an instructor is out, one of our other highly-qualified instructors will provide the student’s lesson, so there is no disruption to a student’s progress! Depending on how much notice OMS receives from the teacher, you may or may not be notified in advance.


School closures


Each year, we have planned closures for holidays, performances, and PD days. They have been factored into the total number of lessons your enrollment allows so there are no make-ups issued for them. Our school closures and calendar can be found in the student resource page on our website.


Discontinuing lessons


While we would hate to see you go, we know that sometimes priorities change! To discontinue, please send an email to support@octopusmusicschool.com and we will forward you a form to complete. Your request will only be processed after the form is completed. In order for a security deposit to be refunded, three full months of tuition payments must be made and the form must be completed by the 15th of the month prior to discontinuing.
